A leguminous climbing plant of the genus Mucuna, having crooked pods covered with sharp hairs, which stick to the fingers, causing intolerable itching. The spicul[ae] are sometimes used in medicine as a mechanical vermifuge. [Written also couhage, cowage, and cowitch.]
