Cephus pygmaeus Wheat sawfly Wheat sawfly
(a) A small European sawfly (Cephus pygm[ae]us) whose larva
does great injury to wheat by boring in the stalks.
(b) Any of several small American sawflies of the genus
Dolerus, as D. sericeus and D. arvensis, whose
larv[ae] injure the stems or heads of wheat.
(c) Pachynematus extensicornis, whose larv[ae] feed chiefly
on the blades of wheat; -- called also grass sawfly.

small + bok buck.]
(Zo["o]l.) An antelope (Cerphalopus pygm[ae]us), found in
South Africa. It is of very small size, being but one foot
high at shoulder. It is remarkable for its activity, and for
its mild and timid disposition. Called also guevi, and
pygmy antelope.

the European species (Sitta Europ[ae]a). The white-breasted
nuthatch (S. Carolinensis), the red-breasted nuthatch (S.
Canadensis), the pygmy nuthatch (S. pygm[ae]a), and
others, are American.

A small chevrotain of the genus Tragulus, esp. T.
pygm[ae]us, or T. kanchil, inhabiting Java, Sumatra, and
adjacent islands; a deerlet. It is noted for its agility and
cunning.
